Supreme Court Hearing for NTA NEET UG 2024 :
Today, the Supreme Court began considering a number of petitions pertaining to the contentious NEET-UG 2024 medical admission exam. The NTA has acknowledged to a paper leak and the distribution of the “leaked question paper” via WhatsApp, the NEET-UG candidates’ attorney informed the supreme court.
NEET UG 2024 SC Hearing:
On Monday, the Supreme Court directed the SG to give them with the proper solution to the Physics question. A three-member expert committee from IIT-Delhi will respond to the NCERT question that resulted in 44 candidates receiving the top rank.
Senior attorney Hooda told the Supreme Court that the paper leak occurred via WhatsApp and could not have been limited to Patna, Bihar. “The solvers were obtained from Rajasthan. WhatsApp was used to distribute information. It is impossible that the leak is limited to Patna,” he remarked. He went on to say that if the Supreme Court is “not considering re-NEET, at least qualified people should be asked to re-take the exam, which will be about 13 lakh people.”
Although incorrect question paper booklets were given out at eight locations nationwide, according to NTA Counsel, Solicitor General, “the difficulty level is of the same level,” so the NTA decided it was appropriate to allow students to keep showing up for the incorrect question booklet. NTA Counsel acknowledges that little over 3000 candidates received Canara bank paper.
69 pupils received scores above 650, while 241 received scores above 550, according to Advocate Hooda. These schools are owned by their city coordinators. It cannot be ruled out that there may be a connection between the coaching centres and the private schools because they are entirely privatised. These are private institutions, and the invigilators are their teachers. There are 48 private schools in Sikar that are not administered by the CBSE but are just linked with it.
Is there a basis to cancel the exam in its entirety or just in Sikar, CJI queries?
The bench, which included Justices JB Pardiwala, Manoj Misra, and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, heard close to forty cases concerning purported anomalies on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024. On July 23, the hearing will continue.
NTA NEET UG 2024 Supreme Court: An analysis from IIT Madras
However, a “overall increase in the marks obtained by students, specifically in the range of 550 to 720” was noted by IIT Madras in its analysis. For example, 2,321 candidates this year received scores between 700 and 720, compared to 350 in 2023 and 99 in 2022. There were 27,885 candidates in the 650–699 mark range this year, up to 6,939 the previous year and 4,583 the year prior. This increase was attributed by IIT Madras to a reduction in the syllabus.
Which NTA NEET UG 2024 Supreme Court exams have been rescheduled since 2018?
The data provided by the ministry indicates that the Covid-19 epidemic caused the postponement of four exams: JEE-Main (2020), NEET-UG (2020), JEE-Main (2021), and NEET-UG (2021).
“Covid-19 pandemic and logistical challenges” caused the postponement of the following: CSIR UGC-NET (2020), UGC-NET (December, 2020), UGC-NET (May, 2021), and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) AIEEA (2020).
The Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET) 2020 was postponed since DU suspended the registration procedure in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. The test is required for admission to UG, PG-MPhil, and PhD programmes.
The AICTE’s change of the examination structure resulted in the postponement of the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT)-2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused the All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET) and Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test (JIPMAT) of 2021 to be postponed.
For administrative reasons, the 2022 IGNOU PhD Entrance was delayed.
The Graduate Aptitude Test Biotechnology (GAT-B) for 2023 has been rescheduled in accordance with regional biotechnology centres.
The National Common Entrance Test (NCET) and CSIR-NET were postponed in 2024 because of technical and logistical problems, respectively.
The Education Ministry in LS claims that NTA has postponed 16 exams for the NEET UG 2024 Supreme Court since 2018. COVID and logistics are among the reasons given.
Since its founding in 2018, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed at least 16 exams for various reasons, the Ministry of Education told the Lok Sabha on Monday. The COVID-19 pandemic, administrative, logistical, and technological problems were among the causes of the postponement. State Minister for Education Sukanta Majumdar provided the details in answer to a written inquiry from DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi in the Lok Sabha.
“NTA has successfully administered more than 240 exams involving more than 5.4 crore students since its founding in 2018.” There have been occasions when examination dates that were initially notified in respect of specific subjects or shifts could not be kept to due to unforeseen circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, logistical and technical issues, administrative issues, court orders, etc. Since the majority of NTA examinations are held in multiple subjects, multiple shifts, and span over a number of days, the Minister stated.
NTA NEET UG 2024 Supreme Court: Results by city and location
Over 100 of the 4,750 centres where the entrance exam was held this year had more than three times the share of high-scoring candidates (scores exceeding 600 out of 720 marks) than the national average, according to the city- and center-wise results released by NTA as ordered by the Supreme Court.
The coaching hotspots of Rajasthan, Sikar (44) and Kota (16), are home to more than half of these 109 exam centres. More than half (24 out of 44 test centres in Sikar with high-scoring applicants) had at least five times (18% and above) the national average of candidates with scores above 600.
This is roughly consistent with the IIT-Madras study of the NEET-UG results, which the Centre submitted to the Supreme Court arguing that there is no anomaly in the findings to suggest widespread fraud. The top 60,000 exam scorers this year were distributed throughout the following cities: Sikar had 3,405, Kota had 2,033, and Patna had 1,561. Last year, 1,993 candidates from Patna were ranked in the top 60,000.
NTA NEET UG 2024 Supreme Court: 3.5% of students in each city received a score of more than 600 out of 720 in the NEET.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday made the individual test results of almost 23.5 lakh applicants who took the NEET-UG 2024 exam public in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives. After rumours of question paper leaks surfaced, the tests became controversial.
A little more than 81,000 students, or 3.49% of the total, passed the exam this year with a score of 600 or higher out of 720. There were 29,351 of these candidates in 2023 (1.43 percent of the total), and 21,164 in 2022 (1.19 percent of the total).
NTA NEET UG 2024 Supreme Court: Abhishek threatens action against dissident party leaders and cadres and seeks Pradhan’s arrest over NEET
In a move that intensified pressure on the BJP-led government in the central government over the NEET paper leak controversy, TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee called for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s arrest on Sunday.
The BJP retaliated. “Abhishek Banerjee’s goal is to blend everything together. There is no proof that Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister of Education, or his Ministry are connected to the NEET paper leak. But Mamata Banerjee was complicit in the SSC recruiting scandal. State BJP chairman Sukanta Majumdar stated, “There is no point making baseless allegations against the BJP when his own party leaders are in jail on charges of corruption.”
NTA NEET UG 2024 Supreme Court: Kota’s opulent dormitory project becomes a “ghost town” as student enrollment declines
About 17 kilometres away from the bustle of Kota, where many JEE and NEET applicants spend years hoping to visit India’s most prestigious engineering and medical schools, a Rs 1,500-crore luxury hostel project in the Rajasthani city has begun to take on the appearance of a ghost town.
The roughly 300 structures in Coral Park on Baran Road are covered in “To-Let” and “For Sale” banners. These buildings sprung up over the course of the last five years in response to plans to relocate Kota’s various coaching institutes to this government-designated education zone.
An annual decline in admissions of 30–40% has been plaguing investors of the planned Coral Park since January. Kota is the home of over 2 lakh JEE and NEET candidates. Compared to previous year, when it had 1,25,000 students, ALLEN Career Institute in Kota reports having barely 82,000 this year. Meanwhile, Resonance Kota has 7,000 admissions this year compared to 8,800 last year.
Supreme Court of NTA NEET UG 2024: “Extremely serious issue with the examination system in India,” Rahul Gandhi criticises Dharmendra Pradhan, the minister of education
Monday saw the introduction of the Economic Survey into Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, one day ahead of the highly anticipated Union Budget. During the first Question Hour of the Monsoon Session, however, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan found himself at the centre of attention as the Opposition attacked him over the NEET-UG “paper leak” episode.
The leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi, asserted that Pradhan will “blame everybody but himself” in response to the alleged paper leak event, while Congress MP Manickam Tagore and Samajwadi Party chairman Akhilesh Yadav attacked Pradhan.
“What is the minister’s plan for 70 cases in seven years?”
In response to Manickam Tagore’s assertion that there have been 70 paper leaks in the previous seven years, Pradhan stated that the number provided by the Tamil Nadu MP was unsupported by any proof.
